Because of staying out of touch for so many days, I wasn’t really aware of what was happening in the online part of the world and how exactly blogging was taking shape (Guess what! it felt like that whole year passed in those holidays, well that actually happened as well. Bye! 2008). During this time period, my blogging juices dried up and now I sometimes wonder that what should I blog about. Anyway, while going through my feed reader, I came across this wonderful post at hubspot blog and was glad to find out that how social media helps in internet marketing.
They’ve listed some of the goals that can be achieved through help of blogging, social networking sites and how these things will help them in attracting (inbound marketing) the visitors.
Blogging & Content Goals
1. Create more inbound links, i.e. improve off-page SEO. Content gives people a reason to link to your site. If you only have five pages on your website, there are only five reasons to link to your site. If you’re creating new pages every day, there are new reasons to link to your site every day.
2. Increase our website’s keyword density, keyword volume and freshness. More content means more content with keywords for Google to index.
3. Increase our company’s reach (its ability to drive direct traffic) via RSS & email subscriptions.
4. Increase our company trust and transparency. Huge reach and great SEO is useless if nobody trusts or understands our company.
5. Create content that we can share on social networks. Networks like Twitter and Facebook are better when you have content to share.
Social Media Goals
1. Distribute our content, which builds our reach and increases the liklihood of links coming back into our site (links improve both direct traffic and seo).
2. Listen to customers and prospects.
3. Develop trust and transparency. This improves conversions once you get people on your site, and makes people more likely to spread your content and come back to your site.
On-Page SEO Goals
1. Increase search engine traffic to our site.
If you notice that they’ve listed out that how exactly they are going to use each and every tool for realizing various goals and that how they plan to make their website visible. Not only that they’ve planned to use social networking websites for taking feedback and customer interaction.
These are the kind of strategies one should focus on while you try to promote your business online and blogs are one of the most important ways of doing that. Inbound marketing can be done successfully through blogs and that’s why I suggest that everyone or at least every business should have a regularly updated blog. Do you have one?
