Few days back, I got this email from Google Adsense team and found out that they’ve decided to retire Google Adsense Video units. I always felt that Google Adsense Video Units will be difficult to monetize in the current market conditions. I guess a wonderfully and creative video ad will do much wonders as marketing campaign for any company on YouTube itself. You don’t believe me – Check out the number of views of this ad on Youtube, this ad and this ad too.
Anyway, this is what the email read -
We recommend that you begin removing the video unit code from your pages as soon as possible, to ensure that you can take advantage of the available ad space on your pages. At the end of April, any remaining Leaderboard or Skyscraper video units will begin directing users to YouTube.com, while other video unit sizes will automatically be changed to standard embedded YouTube players. These standard video players will display top YouTube videos, but you won’t generate earnings from them once this change occurs.
So, if you are using Google Adsense Video Units, then probably you should take them down and instead use regular text and image ad unit. This way you’ll be able to better monetize it. I’m using Google Adsense for video units on one of my blog, and I was even planning to take it down, till I got this email from Google itself.
What are your thoughts about Google Adsense Video Units, did you ever try them and how was your experience with them?
Did try it once and was n't impressed. Never used them again. Its good that Google called it a day with them.
They had to, it was just not the right kind of advertisement. Video ads in videos looks fine, however video ads in text.. i wonder if people would like to see that.
will google ever start it again?? what say!
I seriously doubt that Google will start it ever again or at least, they’ll not start it anytime soon. This product was way ahead of its time. It may come up again in some time, however it will surely have lots of changes in it.
i am just starting out with Google Adsense. i am hoping that i would earn a good deal of money on this program.
