Sorry to hear that people’s blogs crash because of these spammers, who don’t have the decency to first read the texts and then to make comments. I think promoting your site using this tool of commenting to blog is a good idea, but people should focus to make pertinent comments, on subjects that interest them the most. This way the internet would be a community of people, caring about each other, not of robots.

Spammers are getting better and better. They generate unique human-like replies and are able to break captchas automatically.

In my experience the only thing that works is captcha + a custom unique bot verification, like “what is the third letter of the name of this website”. And of course comment moderation.

Could you explain how any of these programs help? To my knowledge All of these programs put your spam in a separate folder for you to go through. If this is not the case (I’ve never used any of these plugins) could you explain what exactly they do with the spam? Do these plugins take it upon themselves to delete it? That would be fine, accept even email can’t do that properly yet. There are always those few that get incorrectly marked.

If what I am believing is however true and they don’t delete the spam, how exactly does this help the database size at all?

Indeed Akismet is one of the best solution for the spam, however if you add wp-spamfree plugin as well – it will only help you. BTW, thanks for dropping by and I hope to see you regularly over here :)

You also should try out Antispam Bee, so you don't get even any Spam, ergo you don't have to delete any Spam anymore. Great Plugin!
