Is following your passion in blogging a nice idea ?
“Blogging Guru”, Daniel has shared a wonderful post with us (as usual) where he discusses “Should You Really Write About What You Love If You Want to Make Money Online?” In the post Daniel raised the concerns over the following statement which you will see on any blog related to Blogging :
If you want to make money online, you got to pick a topic that you are passionate about. You need to love it, else it will not work.
I used to and I still believe in this very statement and there is one simple reason for the same and i.e. You will enjoy blogging more if you are blogging about the subject in which your real interest lies. Daniel made a good point that there are many people who just get motivated by pure desire of making more money or making money online. Agreed! although, I’ve seen that after one stage those people will simply quit blogging (as it’s not their passion) and will continue to enjoy the income they are getting from it.
Some will ask that what’s the harm in quitting blogging when the blogger will continue to make money from it and the answer to that is -
1. Blogging is not just about making money - It’s about meeting new people, branding and a whole lot more. Money will always be a secondary thing once you start getting it and people will starve for authority, status and respect which they will get from their readers and that’s what is more important for everyone of us.
2. Continuos blogging will only reap benefits in future - On this point, I would love to redirect you to a recent post by John Chow, where he has shared his monthly income from his blog. John writes many posts every day and all those posts act as his real estate as visitors continue to come on his blog and they continue to click on the ads or affiliate links and thus adds up the income for John. So, if a person is passionate about something then they’ll continue to blog and thus will have a consolidated income in later years.
I agree to what Daniel says, although I still believe that it’s a better idea to start a blog on a topic where your real interest is as you won’t feel bored with it and you’ll be able to earn as well. What’s your thought on the same ?
