As most of you know that I’ve been professional blogger for more than couple of years and many people ask me that what’s the best way of monetizing a blog. Well, the simplest way is of course, through ads however, they have lately been pretty slow for most of the people as the blogging industry is growing the competition is getting stiff.

Anyway, lets check that what are the ways through which one can monetize the blogs -

1. Advertisements.
2. Affiliate marketing.
3. Freelance writing.
4. Selling services.
5. Am I missing something?

Well, I’ve tried almost everything which I’ve mentioned above and have been doing well too, however I would definitely say that out of all three the one which I like the most is the 4th point i.e. Selling services. This very blog is the live example of it (I offer Blog Design for WordPress based blogs) and even though, I don’t know how to create design, how to code – I’m still offering the services and one can always the question that how am I doing that? So, let me explain it that how can you start offering services from your blog too!

1. Hire someone – If you are good in some particular topic and there is something which can be offered as a service, good in that particular field but you are not the best man for that (like I don’t know how to design/code a wordpress theme) then hire someone to do that for (like I’ve done). You do the marketing through blogs and get clients and let your employee do the work.

2. Partner with someone – There are many freelancers available on the internet and if you can find a good person who offers quality services then simply contact them and partner with them and try to split the revenue with them. I’m sure if you’ll start getting regular work, they’ll be ready to partner with you.

Why is this a better option than advertisement, isn’t it too much pain ?

1. Building blocks for your business – It may take some investment and may frustrate you, however as you’ll start gaining customers and as you’ll build reputation, you’ll understand that this will give you much higher returns than any other way of monetization.

2. You are not dependent on others – For ads, you depend on other companies like Google however, when you sell services, you are not dependent on them. You know that your business will run even if those companies face bad phase. So, it’s always good if you offer some services from your blog.

Sure I agree that it can be a pain, if you are just starting this sort of monetization however, in the longer run it will always be fruitful. It can be even bigger pain, if at all you are not in a position to leave your day job and then you start something like this as you’ll have to manage this other job as well, however success doesn’t come easily in this world.

So, what do you think about such a model of monetization ? Do you think you will be able to offer something from your blog which people may love to buy from you ?

  1. A very interesting thought. Advertising rarely seems to fit a site well and blogging for ad revenue is just as time-consuming as working with a freelancer. Good post.

  2. Yeah you’re missing a lot. You can offer membership programs, selling information products, paid reviews, etc.

    • Yeah you are absolutely right! Thanks for dropping by and taking your time to leave comments. I’ll go ahead and will update this blog post to ensure that everyone can reap the benefits.
