For users of WordPress there is always the Subscribe2 plugin. It allows you to manage your subscribers yourself. It’s available free if you want plaintext emails for most of your users too.

@erin – indeed! But I’ve to say that mailchimp is fantastic for email stuff and subscription option. It provides amazing options and i believe that email subscription should be promoted more than rss as such…

I’ve been googling this morning trying to find a viable solution to this Feedburner idiocy. It tends to drop the precise amount of EMAIL subscribers when reporting my stats, at least once a week. It’s like it can’t really comprehend that it’s supposed to count them as subscribers EVERY day. And you are right – in the absence of any real competition, Google has no incentive to improve/fix the service. I guess we get what we pay for….

The best thing about Feedburner is that it’s easy to use. The stats are all over the place and I take those with a pinch of salt.

I have never looked for an alternative as I don’t think I need one right now.

Signed up for Mail Chimp yesterday but got kinda frustrated with the whole setup process. Why can’t things be as easy as Feedburner. If only feedburner could expand its functionalities a lil bit further, I wouldn’t be shopping elsewhere.

Aweber’s pricing is plain greedy!
They even charge you for ‘storing’ email addresses. What do I mean by ‘storing’? Let me explain. If you have 7,000 signed up subscribers and 3,000 who have signed out (but still listed) they charge you for storing the email addresses which are no longer subscribed.

But either way, the feed stats counter is understandably unstable as – due to the nature of RSS – it’s an estimation of subscriptions rather than actual numbers.

I don’t live and die by the stats so the accuracy is not that big a deal for me. I do like the integration with Aweber and some of the other features it has.

Maybe if a better option came along I would try it, but for now I would be happy to stick with FB and hope they just sort it out a little better.
