Few days back, I gave the instructions on setting up a blog on Windows Live Writer. Today, I would like to tell you that how one can setup a WordPress blog on Ecto, one of the most popular Mac OS X desktop blog client. I recently came across Blogo, a wonderful looking blog client for OS X, however I think its still pretty low in features and I’m just hoping that it’ll improve and I’ll buy it. I’ll come up with its review in upcoming posts.
Meanwhile, lets get back to setting up of WordPress blog in Ecto blog client and before we do that we’ll need to ensure that XML RPC should be ON in WordPress dashboard and here’s how we can do that.
In the WordPress dashboard – you need to go to Settings and then click on Writing. Check the tick-box that reads – Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols. Click on save changes. One needs to do this step only once! So if you are setting up a blog client on a different computer, you don’t need to do it again.
1. After we’ve ensured that XML-RPC is enabled, one just needs to install Ecto on Mac OS X. I’m assuming that you’d know how to install it. You can go ahead and download it from here and follow the instructions in readme to install it.
2. Once you’ve installed it, we need to configure it and for that. We need to open up Assistant from the Account Manager.
3. On the next step, you need to select WordPress and then enter your blog address. For e.g. – http://yourdomain.com/
4. After that it’ll ask you for the username and password. Fill that information and click save.
Once you’ll click on save it’ll download various information from your blog and you’ll be in a position to start posting from Ecto blogging client. As you can see that its pretty simple and it’ll not be really difficult for one to configure it. Although, in case you face any issues, feel free to ask us and we’ll be able to help you.
