When it comes to patience level, I’m one of those guys who doesn’t loses his temper quickly (except few cases – like when I see people not applying common sense, not driving in sensible way etc.) and I tend to give chances to improve. You may be wondering that why am I talking about my patience level all of a sudden. Reason is pretty simple, IntenseDebate has already tested my patience level and I don’t see any reason for me to continue using that service anymore.

I’ve spoken about the service before and have praised them for the work they are doing. I’ve read lot of negative comments about them on my blog and on other blogs too, still I didn’t stop from using that service as it was offering some really wonderful features that I’m going to miss.

Why did I remove it, when I liked it?

It became too flaky for my own liking. I prefer services that are feature rich and deliver what they are offering. GMail is one example, it came up with less features, however there uptime has been extremely wonderful even though its in beta phase and to add “cherry on top” they came up with more and more features in frequent intervals and thus became favorite for most of us.

IntenseDebate, started pretty good and offered decent features with good service levels too. However, lately they’ve disappointed me in their service level. My readers were already facing issues with it and even I started facing a problem that it didn’t keep me logged in while I was using Apple Safari. There has been lot of issues lately and my patience level has already been tested.

I still like the service and will be keen on using it however, like BillI’ll keep it on the ice and will not use it until it comes out of beta and starts to give good service levels.

  1. I have tried IntenseDebate 3 times on my blog but was not able to even complete its installation–once left my system working for 2 consecutive days but it still did not complete.

Agree that it has unique features but then what is the use–you can’t use it on your blogs. I do not hate it but can’t use it either.

  2. Use Disqus. Chris Brogan recently shifted his blog comments to Disqus and has had a good run so far. Disqus is used by many other well known bloggers too.

  3. Even! I don't hate intensedebate, however because of all the problems that I started facing was more than enough for me to convince to remove this plugin and service from my blog. after suggestion of Abhijeet, I've now installed Disqus and so far, I'm liking it.

  4. Thanks Abhijeet! I've just installed it on your suggestion and I think I'll keep it as it seems to be offering some good features too. It is definitely faster than intensedebate, although slightly difficult to understand as well. Now that I'm getting used to it, I think I'll be fine and will be able to enjoy its offerings.

  5. Me thinks why use any external comment software like these. The stock wordpress is the best.

    • There are benefits of these kind of external comment systems. The best bet is that it will be useful if you ever plan to change the blog platform. It’ll be be surely useful while moving a blog from blogger.com to wordpress based blog. Other than that, these comment services give one more way of networking with other bloggers

  6. This is just what has been happening to me.

    • I read your post and I was like – “ok, i’m not the only one :P” As you may have noticed that I’m using Disqus since then and it’s been working fine and the best thing is that it syncs pretty fast with their servers, so I’m hopeful that this will keep on going for long.

  7. I'm sorry to hear this. We're currently implementing some changes to our db's that are greatly improving performance. We hope to see you again in the future!

    • Hey Michael! I’m very much hopeful with IntenseDebate and I’m sure that under Automattic, it’ll only do wonders. However, I think I’m not ready to implement it on this blog of mine. I’ll surely keep an eye on it with other blogs of mine.

  8. We recently released a new version of our plugin that has corrected this issue (v2.1.1). I would love it if you gave ID another try. Please feel free to drop me a line with any questions.

  9. Sounds bad. I’m analysing whether I should use it for my blog since I’m using blogspot. Any idea?

    • Well, I’ve recently checked intensedebate and disqus and they are improving for sure. I would say that you should try your hand at intensedebate.. it should work fine with blogger.

  10. I hae not tried to install IntenseDebate in wordpress but installing it in a custom cms is as easy as ABC. Easy to customize and fast.
