When the world is talking about leaked iPhone 3.0 beta 2 and praising it all over, I’ve been pretty unfortunate enough to not own it till this time and probably I should blame Indian mobile telcos for the same. I understand that iPhone’s pricing is pretty ridiculous in India, however I would go for it if Indian Telcos provide an unlimited 3g facility (we can expect that they’ll launch 3G soon in India) with it. My craving for having an iPhone increased when Abhishek bought it and was flaunting it in WordCamp India, that Blog Design Studio co-organized in Feburary.

Why this post on Blog Design Studio?

The idea of picking up this discussion came in mind while I was visiting the beautiful caves and found it difficult to blog from their as it was too difficult for me to carry the laptop around and when the internet connection is so slow that even the Twitter’s mobile version was taking time to load on my Nokia E-71.

According to me, iPhone is not just a phone and its smart enough that it can do almost all the work that you expect from a laptop as a blogger. WordPress for iPhone is one of the few applications that allows you to blog from iPhone. There are many more applications for iPhone and because it is small and easy to carry, it will even make blogging much more easier and fun. Honestly, I’ve seen people type on iPhone and I see them type much faster on it as compared to computers.

Am I cribbing about the fact that I don’t have an iPhone?

Yes and no! I agree that I’m one of those unfortunate users who can’t use iPhone because of the above mentioned reason (I don’t see a point of using iPhone without unlimited 3G connection – unlimited data transfer too) and “no” because I’d like to list the applications that’ll help you blog from your iPhone in easier way (for lucky ones who have iPhone and to ensure that this post adds value for the readers around blogging.)

1. WordPress for iPhone – This little and official blog editor for iPhone from the team automattic is capable of doing all the tasks that you expect from your WordPress blog.

2. Tweet from your iPhoneTwitterific is one application that my friends on Twitter generally use and promote. There are various other applications for the same that support Twitter; iTweet, Twitterlator are some of them.

3. Social networkingShoZu is one application that is like a swiss army knife for various services like Facebook, Flickr, PhotoBucket, Blogger etc. As a blogger, I’m sure you do realize the power of networking. This application just makes networking simpler for you.

Of course, I’m not the owner of iPhone and didn’t have enough chance to play around with it so, I wouldn’t be the best judge of various applications that are available for iPhone. If you blog regularly using iPhone then I would request you to let us know about the applications that you use in your iPhone.

Update – OK! There are rumors that Microsoft Office for iPhone may be available and that will further strengthen my idea of just using iPhone for my day to day computing.

I was used to be a fan of nokia previously, I used to have a nokia 5300 before i purchased an iphone. and really I a Fan of my iphone now. Its really worth the amount you pay to get it.

    According To me
Yes, as a blogger I would say you don't need to carry ur laptop if you have an iphone when you are going out, but definately laptop is more comfortable to type.

  2. I am sorry to say this but yes the iPhone kinda sucks. There are better phones which can do more at less prices, so why get a iPhone, just for style?

  3. I will also agree with #fas. There are many phones that can do it for you but surely Wordpress might not be on for them. However, carrying a laptop while you visit the caves or some hills is a herculean task indeed and I can't even dare to imagine it.

    • Hmm.. There are various other phones that can do the work that iphone can however there are few things that will always keep it better than those phones and one of them is that they are constantly trying to improve its interface, hardware and that they are not coming up with different models and its one of the fastest growing platform in mobile phones, so I’m sure that other phones manufacturers will have tough time ahead.

Apart from that, it wasn’t really an iPhone good or bad debate, if someone is fine with other phone doing the task that iPhone can do, then I don’t mind that. The idea was that notebook can be replaced with these new smartphones and things will only favor smartphones in future.
