I was going through my feed reader, when I came across the post written by Akismet team that stresses on the point of eliminating the comment spam for better SEO of your blog. We all know that how important it is to ensure that the blog should be spam free. It helps a lot in ensuring that only healthy conversation stays around the blog posts. It is equally important to understand that comment spam free blog will also do well in SEO. Here are the reasons given by the Akismet Team -

1. You are undermining your site’s SEO.
2. You are attracting more spammers.
3. You are damaging your reputation.

They’ve given some wonderful explanation for the above mentioned points and I completely agree to them. However, they’ve not spoken about other spam reducing plugins that have done wonders for me. Till one point of time, I used to follow the solution provided by their team i.e. Akismet Plugin, however I realized that only this plugin doesn’t solve the problem as more and more spam comments trouble you every now and then.

In the past, I’ve written about various anti-comment spam plugins and I believe that a combination of anti-spam comment plugins is really important to have peace of mind while blogging.

I’m personally using Akismet and WP-SpamFree and since then haven’t faced even a single issue with this combination. I think one should definitely use this combination and you’ll not regret.

  1. I didn’t know spam affects SEO, but now I guess I need to be more strict with this.

    • Glad that this post helped you in finding about it. Yes, we all need to be strict with the blog comments. Actually, not just blog comments, trackbacks are also spammy in nature, so one should be strict in that area as well.

  2. SEO is dependable on so many factors, but I guess we all should keep content within certain limits to make the visitor experience worth their while. I`m doing some research on the same subject and came to this post, really objective.
