I’ve upgraded our blog to WordPress 2.8.2 without any glitches and issues. I used the core update feature of WordPress, after I noticed that due to one XSS vulnerability one could get redirected from the admin dashboard to URL mentioned in the comment forms. I would strongly suggest everyone to update their WordPress installation as it hardly takes a minute to upgrade.

Apart from that, Jeff Chandler posted the idea of having bbPress as WordPress plugin. I would definitely love to see a bbPress plugin for WordPress or a bbPress lite plugin with WordPress. The plugin should allow bloggers to create small forums along with the blog and should allow those forums posts to be displayed in the blog as blog posts based on the blogger’s discretion. There are few other bloggers who appreciated the idea; however, Chip Bennett and few others are not happy with the idea as this kind of plugin will make database heavier.

What are your thoughts about having bbPress Lite as a plugin for WordPress? Do you think it’ll make life easier for those who are not technically sound – I’m sure we can have many ideas floating around this topic.

Note – There is no plugin in the making and this was just an idea that came in Jeff’s mind and I just think that it’s a wonderful idea. May be Movable Type community would be interested in such kind of suggestion.

  1. Wow i got to this post a week late… really haven’t had that much time to read my feeds but i have to say that giving bbpress as a plugin as well as the current way would be much easier on the users but then again we have to think about the developers the work load would be to big making 2 different versions.

Anyway not many blogs really do have a forum to start with so i don’t see how this would be an issue.

  2. In my opinion, the plugin would be a fantastic idea. Especially because lot of people do want a simple forum functionality but don’t want to take pain of installing and integrating bbpress with WP.

However, I think similar forum plugin exists. Not exactly bbpress plugin but forum plugin is there.

There are already third party forum plugins for WordPress so it really makes sense that bbPress should be made a plugin for WordPress. I would definitely add a bbPress forum to my site if it was a plugin as I trust a plugin backed by WordPress a lot more then a third party plugin that could be discontinued any time.
