There are hundreds of WordPress themes available for download which are so tempting that you can activate a new theme everyday and there will be days when you’d try two or three new theme. Those who are comfortable with maintaining their own hosting will find this tutorial pretty noobish, however everyone starts from somewhere and this article can be a start for some.
Let’s find out that how can we install and use a free WordPress theme :
1. Connect to FTP server using any of the FTP program. I prefer Filezilla for Windows and CyberDuck for OS X.
2. Browse to the folder wp-content/themes/ (you’ll find it where you’ve installed the WordPress blog).
3. Upload the theme folder.
These steps installs the theme, now in order to activate the WordPress theme, please follow these steps :
1. Login to Dashboard (http://yourdomainname.com/wp-admin).
2. Go to Design tab.
3. Click on the theme which you just uploaded.
Otherwise there is a wonderful plugin called OneClick from one of my blogger friend Anirudh, you can simply use this plugin to upload the zip file of theme and it does the task for you. It will upload the zip file, extract the content and will place it in the right folders. You can use this plugin to not only install themes but WordPress plugins too.
